Today Isabel had a tough afternoon. She had a great time this morning though. We went to a new restaurant with Sarah and Mac called Mary's Of Course. I highly recommend it! We had breakfast and big ol lattes. Isabel had vanilla yogurt with homemade granola and apple juice. They had all kinds of Hello Kitty paraphernalia around which she thought was really cool. Then later we got to go the mall for a little bit and she played at the "Healthy play place" which I'm not sure is all that healthy what with all the preschooler drool and all. Anyway, she enjoyed that and then we went to Chick Fil-a for lunch for "nuggets, fruit, and da big swide." So, overall, a great morning for her. Well, when naptime rolled around she realized that during all that fun, she hadn't seen her daddy. She realized that she missed him. At first I thought she was just procrastinating but then we had this conversation:
Me: What's wrong Isabel? Why can't you take your nap?
Isabel: I'm crying and I'm sad.
Me: I know...but why are you sad?
Isabel: I'm sad because I want my daddy.
Me: Well, he'll be home later. It's time for your nap.
Isabel: But I just want him. (said in a very sad heartfelt tone)
Me: What if we call him?
Isabel: I want to.
So, we call and he of course asks, "Isabel, why are you not asleep? Why are you sad?" and she says, "I just want you." She never took her nap until he came home later this evening but she felt a WHOLE lot better after talking to him. She spent all evening playing with him and talking to him.
I started thinking about how much it would please God's heart if we felt that way about Him. Because really in the midst of all the things going on, we really just need Him. We just need to spend time with our Heavenly Father.
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" 1 John 3:1

Chorus and a bridge for the Day
Here is a glimpse into me writing a worship song. As soon as Brian wakes up from his nap he's going to help me w/ the melody. hehe
chorus:
All day long
My hope is in you
All day long
Guide me in your truth
Show me your ways
And let me see that
All day long
You're all I need
bridge:
For this God is our God for ever and ever
This God is our God even to the end.
For this God is our God for ever and ever
This God is our guide even to the end.
I am currently working on the verses. ;)
This came from reading Psalm 25 & 48
We need HIM to guide us...and we need to remember that He has been guiding us all along and He will be our guide even to the end.
chorus:
All day long
My hope is in you
All day long
Guide me in your truth
Show me your ways
And let me see that
All day long
You're all I need
bridge:

What did you get for Christmas last year?
Disclaimer: Please don't think this post means that you should not buy your kids toys or get your husband anything nice for Christmas. Or put stuff in your stockings. I'm not anti-gift. :) I just started thinking about what $15 could really buy and turns out that you can actually pay for school tuition and/or supplies to teach a child to read and write for that amount. It was eye-opening for me and I thought I would share it.

So I don't really remember what I got for Christmas last year? Do you? I remember that Isabel got a little table with chairs and her pink Dora crocs and some other stuff. I'm not really sure what I gave Brian now that I think about it. What if somebody gave you food to help you survive? or clean water to drink? What if you learned a new trade that kept your family from starving? What if you received a pair of shoes or clean clothes? What if you learned to read and write? What if you were able to feed your hungry baby? What if you were rescued from slavery or abuse?
I imagine we'd remember those things. Well, God is speaking to my heart about all of the people in need and how I have plenty. A lot of times we feel helpless. Like when your mom used to say, "well there are starving children in africa! you better eat your vegetables!" I don't think God wants us to feel helpless. I think he wants to empower us to speak up for those less fortunate and to actually do something to help them!
Brian and I received a really special gift this year. A gift was given in our honor to rescue a child from bondage and abuse. That gift has really encouraged me to give gifts that matter too. I think God provides ministries like Samaritan's Purse and International Justice Mission, Caroline's Promise, Campus Crusade for Christ, and a slew of others to remind us that we can help. We are part of God's plan to give people hope!
After all Jesus came to be a light to guide the nations, open the eyes of the blind, free the captives from prison, and release the oppressed. (Isaiah 42:6-7 & Luke 4:18-19)

My Default Song
So today one of my friends from high-school/college sent me a text because he woke up this morning with my "default song" in his head. I'm not sure how long I've had a default song but as far back as I can remember. Now you're probably wondering....what is she even talking about?? Well, a default song is the song that just pops in your head when you're not really thinking about much else and when you don't already have a particular song in your head. It's not necesarily your favorite song it's just the one that always comes back. You don't even really have to hear it all that much but the tune somehow just starts. As a matter of fact, I don't remember the last time I actually heard mine (probably last Christmas). So, without further ado...here is my song:
"Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the Feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cru-el
Then a poor man came in sight
Gathering winter fu---uu-el"
So there ya have it. I know it's ridiculous. So, now I want to know if you have a default song. Seriously, I can't be the only one! Post a comment with yours!
